The Challenge
The exam question set to us by SWEEEP was to show how we could detect cylinder batteries in the waste stream. Once successful, work to extract the batteries from the waste stream. Understanding the amount of batteries passing through the facility was key. Enabling real-time action would be enormously valuable.
The Solution
Lion Vision was deployed initially to support the first use case which was detecting cylinder batteries. Having proven the use case, a second system was installed further down the line. This enabled us to show the number of batteries that were being missed in the picking booth. Through visualisation, we were able to understand the full extent of cylinder batteries in the waste flow, ensuring battery removal was increased. The solution has led to increased product purity, improved operations and higher productivity whilst helping to reduce the number of fires in the facility which in turn, provides peace of mind. Other use cases are now underway.
Working with LionVision on our battery detection project has been a truly positive experience. Their professionalism, expertise and collaborative approach has created a strong working relationship off which we are building towards a future integrating AI-powered vision with electronic waste.
